Introduction

Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya was one of the greatest Telugu poets and musicians. He was very much impressed with the serene surroundings of Tirumala Hill where we have the world-famous temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara,  settled there, and composed several songs in praise of the Almighty. The current attempt is to present rough yet analytical translations and/or commentaries for some of his lyrics, for those who appreciate the philosophy therein.

There has been a lot of research on the works of Sri Annamacharya. Many commentators from our Telugu states have done yeoman service in spreading the message of Sri Annamcharya by popularizing the songs and writing detailed commentaries for them mainly in simple Telugu and also in English and maybe other languages.

Many such commentators are language experts in Telugu and/or Sanskrit and their service in interpreting several difficult words is highly commendable. However, in many places they have not rightly captured the intent of Sri Annamacharya when attempting to interpret the songs philosophically. While this is mainly due to lack of understanding, at a few places there have been convenient misinterpretations to suit their own thought processes as well. I have even come across serious misinterpretations by vested interests though they are also adherents of the Vedic tradition.

This blogspot is a humble attempt to provide the right philosophical interpretations to the works of Sri Annamacharya while I am no expert in Telugu (my mother tongue) and Sanskrit. Even if it is one step forward in the right direction, I consider myself to be successful.

The translations and commentaries will be in English and/or Telugu, depending on my convenience.
